Kahf exists to bring people into lasting conversation with the literary, cultural, and intellectual traditions of the East—not as distant inheritances, but as living sources of thought, imagination, and discovery.

We strive to:

• Cultivate a vibrant community of readers, writers, artists, translators, scholars, educators, and cultural practitioners united by a shared commitment to the many literary, cultural, and intellectual worlds of the East
• Foster scholarship, translation, creative practice, and critical inquiry that deepen understanding, challenge assumptions, and open new pathways for dialogue across cultures, disciplines, languages, and generations
• Create opportunities for learning, collaboration, publication, and public engagement that bring the diverse traditions of the East into conversation with one another and with the wider world
• Support both emerging and established voices whose work preserves, reinterprets, and expands the literary, artistic, and intellectual horizons of the East
